In addition to the all-star line-up of talent scheduled at this year's 11th anniversary Baltimore Comic-Con, the show will host their second annual costume contest ... back by HUGE demand!

"We held the first costume contest last year and were not sure what to expect, it being our first time," said Marc Nathan, Baltimore Comic-Con promoter, "and we were totally caught off-guard when hundreds entered.  The contestants and audience overflowed the stage and the contest room, then spilled into the convention center."  He went on to add, "We've been asked for years and years to have a costume contest - so we had one and it was a massive hit - so now we have to take it up a notch!  Bigger hall, bigger prizes, bigger guest judges."

The $1,000 grand prize will be awarded to the best over-all costume at the event, including pro and amateur costumes.  Other award categories will win DVD prize packages, comic book packages, Orioles baseball tickets, gift certificates to Cards, Comics and Collectibles of Reisterstown, Maryland, and special last minute prizes from top comic book companies.  Everyone who enters the contest will win passes to the advance screening of Summit Entertainment's newest film, RED, starring Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, and Helen Mirren (based on the Wildstorm graphic novel by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner) which opens nationwide on Friday, October 15th.

A panel of celebrity media judges will determine the contest winners, including some world-famous comic book creators!

The contest will start at 1pm on Sunday, August 29th at the Baltimore Convention Center!

Another Anime Convention would like to take this opportunity to announce its second round of guests.

Returning as guest artists this year will be Michelle Pinard and Robert "Sketch" Scholz. The Comiku Girls will be returning as guest panelists, as will the former members of The Penny Dreadfuls. The Dreadfuls have become S. S. Icarus and The Wandering Legion.

Adding to AAC's voice actor lineup, we have Robert Axelrod. Robert's voice acting career has spanned decades, and landed him well known roles such as Lord Zedd from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Colonel Gaust in The Big O.

Finally, Another Anime Con would like to welcome the Japanese band ZAMZA. ZAMZA will be kicking off its 2010 U.S. tour, and promoting its first U.S. album release, MANGA ROCK. The band will be playing on Sunday of the convention, with a meet and greet on Saturday.

He's been the city's greatest champion, battling tirelessly to keep us safe from harm. But what could spell the end for Lone Justice? What could destroy the hero of the century? Does it take losing everything to a horrific economy to make a man see what he really stands for?

With the regular edition of IDW Publishing and ComicMix's Lone Justice - Volume 1 not due in comic shops until September, a select few fans will be able to get a signed, limited convention exclusive edition at the August 28-29, 2010 Baltimore Comic-Con.

Writer-artist Mark Wheatley, writer Robert Tinnell, and editor Mike Gold will all be on hand to celebrate this sneak peek edition, which is limited to only 50 copies. This edition includes a special illustrated signature plate.

"The Baltimore Comic-Con is one of my all-time favorite conventions every year. I love comics and this show is intensely about comics: old comics, new comics, the people who love to make them, and the people who love to read them," said Mark Wheatley. "It doesn't get any more comic-centric than that, which is why we're having these special copies shipped in directly from the printer."

The standard edition of Lone Justice - Volume 1 is featured on Page 157 of the July edition of Previews from Diamond Comic Distributors [item #JUL10 0357]. The full-color trade paperback carries a retail price of just $19.99 for 132 pages almost entirely crammed with incredible pulp-flavored action.

Lone Justice was originally serialized online on ComicMix. This collection, the first of two volumes that will tell the complete tale, marks its first appearance in print. Volume 2 in this series is scheduled for February 2011, also from IDW Publishing.

The Harvey Awards dinner and presentation ceremony, featuring emcee Scott Kurtz and Keynote speaker Mark Waid, will be held on Saturday, August 28th at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore.

Harvey Awards tickets are on sale now.  Tickets to the event, which includes full cocktail hour (cash bar), full service dinner, awards ceremony, and gift bag are now available for $100.  Tickets are available by calling Cards, Comics & Collectibles in Reisterstown, Maryland at (410) 526-7410.  Major Credit Cards will be accepted for payment.  Dinner tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, August 25th and will not be available at the door.

The Harveys, named after the legendary MAD Magazine founding editor and master storyteller Harvey Kurtzman, recognize outstanding achievements in over 20 categories.  They are the only industry awards both nominated and selected by the full body of comic book professionals.

Guests for dinner and the awards ceremony will enjoy a full banquet dinner and a lively show hosted once again by Scott Kurtz as our Master of Ceremonies.  All 22 Harvey Awards will be announced, as well the Keynote Presentation by Mark Waid.

Over the past 25 years, Mark Waid has been involved in every aspect of comics publishing, from writing to editing to production to retail--everything short of inserting the staples in the actual comic books.  He has written some of the best-selling American graphic novels of all time, including KINGDOM COME with artist and co-plotter Alex Ross, and currently serves as the Chief Creative Officer for BOOM! Studios Comics in Los Angeles.

"I'm humbled and intimidated to be asked to give this year's keynote address at the Harveys," said Waid. "I may have been chosen because, given my long history and my current position, I have a unique perspective on the accomplishments this medium has made and the challenges it still faces.  Either that, or the organizers have laid bets on whether or not I'm capable of talking about anything but myself for more than two minutes at a stretch. We'll see."

Scott Kurtz, returning Master of Ceremonies, quipped:  "Last year, I gambled that the comics industry was willing to laugh at itself and MCed the Harveys like they were a roast. The experience lead to my working with Neal Adams by year's end. My hope this year is that I can angle a Kurtz/Waid/Sale team up. So it's gloves off for sure."

Continuing the guest-pleasing promotion from years past, a gift bag will be available to all dinner guests.  The first 250 attendees will receive a gift bag containing a variety of gifts from event sponsors, which will named soon!  Without these sponsors, the event would not be possible and the Baltimore Comic-Con Staff expresses their gratitude.  Look to our website for details as they become available.

Matsuricon is happy to announce it's final round of guest - artist Michael Poe from Caffeine Angel Studios and Studio Akumakaze, along with "Hetalia: Axis Powers" voice actors Brina Palencia (Chibitalia), Scott Freeman(England), and Eric Vale(America).

Michael Poe is the creator of the award-winning online comics Errant Story and Exploitation Now. Poe has continued to work in webcomics for more than a decade, and was one of the first in the field to also be successfully published in print. Poe's comics can be found online at www.ErrantStory.com and www.ExploitationNow.com.

Studio Akumakaze is a comic book studio based out of Dayton, Ohio. Best known for their sci-fi manga-style comic Scrap, they have gone from a gathering of four guys in June 2007 to one of the rising stars of independent comics. Representing the studio this year is Jahmal Ard, Chris Hoskins, Bjay Johnson, Jacob Newell, and Julie Wright.

Brina Palencia is a voice actress, and music director for Funimation and an assistant director for Okratron5000. Her voice acting highlights include: Nina Tucker in Full Metal Alchemist, Yue in Negima, Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece, Yin in Darker Than Black, Priscilla in Claymore, Ennis in Baccano, Rei Ayanami in Evangelion 1.0, Juliet in Romeo X Juliet, and Yumi Azusa in Soul Eater.

Scott has been working at Funimation roughly five years as a voice actor Only in the last year or so he has begun playing larger parts, and his success in voice acting has grown. A few of the titles he can be heard in are Hetalia (as Britain), Pirates: One Piece (as Yasopp and Kamakiri), Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood; the movie Conqueror of Shamballa, Big Windup, Desert Punk, Initial D, KenIchi, Linebarrels, Romeo X Juliet, Soul Eater, and The Tower of Druaga.

Eric Vale is going to take over the world. Actually, he's just an actor who has spent a lot of time under lock and key in sound booths voicing anime characters such as Trunks in Dragon Ball Z, Sanji in One Piece, Yuki in Fruits Basket, and Kymblee in Fullmetal Alchemist among many others. Eric has also spent time as an ADR director in addition to scripting over fifty anime programs as Head Writer with FUNimation Productions.

Unfortunately, due to a schedule conflict, Johnny Yong Bosch and Eyeshine have cancelled their appearance for Mizucon 2010. They have already committed to Mizucon 2011.

Stephanie Sheh
Voice Actor, Writer, Story Editor, Producer, Director, Photographer. She is also credited as Jennifer Sekiguchi, Tiffany Hsieh, Lulu Chiang, and Laura Chyu. As Jennifer Sekiguchi, she has been honored with a nomination for "Best Voice Actress in an Anime Comedy" by the American Anime Awards for her work in Girls Bravo and Haru+Guu. She is often in anime involving Kari Wahlgren another female lead in FLCL. Her most notable roles are Orihime Inoue in Bleach, Eureka in Eureka Seven, Mikuru Asahina in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Wendy Garret in Gun X Sword, and Hinata Hyuga in Naruto. Aside from acting, she has also adapted and written scripts for projects like FLCL, Ikki Tousen, Ah! My Goddess, Hell Girl, and Romeo X Juliet, and even co-directed Resident Evil 5 alongside fellow voice actor Liam O'Brien.

Scott McNeil
He has provided voices to many characters in animated shows, most notably ReBoot, Beast Wars, Storm Hawks, Dragon Ball Z, Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, InuYasha, Ranma 1/2, Fullmetal Alchemist, and X-Men: Evolution. He has done live action work as well. Scott states his first role was providing voices on the The New Adventures of He-Man. His first anime role was for Project A-ko, where he provided the voices for three women. After appearing in a few films and two episodes of Highlander: The Series, he provided voices for Beast Wars, as Waspinator, Dinobot, Rattrap, and Silverbolt. He has described this as the work he is most proud of. On another fan favorite show, Dragon Ball Z, he was cast as the original voice of Piccolo and various other characters. He then provided the voice of Duo Maxwell on Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and Principal Kuno on Ranma 1/2 Scott was then cast in another fan favorite anime, InuYasha, as Koga. He provided the voice of the Fullmetal Alchemist character Hohenheim.

Mizu Con is an annual convention based on Japanese animation and the many sub-genres of anime. Mizucon 2010 will be held August 21-22nd at the Hyatt Regency Miami. Mizu Con will feature many of the festivities found at most Anime conventions. New York Comic Con (NYCC) has announced the preliminary line up of artists who will be appearing in Artist Alley this year. On Saturday Marvel officially announced the cast for the upcoming Avengers movie. The Avengers movie which is slated to open May of 2012 has been in the spotlight recently because of the news that Edward Norton would not be playing the Hulk. Saturday Marvel announced that Mark Ruffalo would play the part of Bruce Banner. Additionally, the Avengers movie logo was also announced and is shown below.

The Avengers movie is being directed by Joss Whedon and will star Robert Downey Jr., Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo.
