I am rethinking the location searching aspects of the site. We added the Convention Map that I believe will be more useful and take up less space on the menu.

Check the Interactive Convention Map out here: http://www.geekcal.com/Locations/Event-Map.html

A general section in the forums... You know just for "Hi I'm..." and just over all general discussion that doesn't fall into anything specific...

Like for example: Hey I love what you have done with the place.... and, What can I do to promote your site (well that last one maybe has a spot already LOL)

Hi Shmoo,

LOL...

You got it. I will put up a new Category for "Introductions" or "Hi I'm". Good suggestion and thank you!

And for promoting the site. Tell everyone you know if you like it.

Cheers!

Hi there!

You may want to look at the search capabilities. I did a search for 'space' as well as 's.p.a.c.e.' but neither brought up that particular con. Same thing with SPX or Small Press Expo.

Also, you may wish to add more detailed rules for submitting an event / add'l FAQ info. Can a user submit an event they don't own? If they do, does their name get attached to it or is it up for claiming by the right people?

Great site so far! I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops. (:

Hi mystikalyx,

Thank you very much for the detailed information and feedback.

The search looks at information in the event Heading, Details and Keywords. "Space" did seem to turn up the correct results. I updated the Keywords for Small Press Expo to include "SPX" and it now turns up in the search.

Unfortunately, the search will only be as the good as the data entered for each event. In this case we entered the basic event information that didn't include the acronym. We will add some information around this point to the FAQ. Good Idea!

Regarding your final point, yes anyone can submit any event at this point. We can't control who enters what event, as long as they are a registered user, but we can and do monitor and will remove "bad/inaccurate" events. Currently, the claim button will only appear if Geekcal.com staff enter the event. For other events that need to be claimed users would need to contact support@geekcal.com. We will add this to the FAQ as well.

Thank you again for all the detail and feedback.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,
Seagalli

Sure thing! I understand search can be one of the trickier elements to get "right." Just to clarify, I was using the overall site search and not the event search option, which did return SPACE as an option. I see it in both result sets now (forgot to look at 'view all results' first time around).

Thanks for the clarification about adding events! There are a couple smaller ones I was considering adding but didn't want to step on the toes of the owners.
