Press Release: DeviantART, the world’s largest online art community boasting over 18 million registered members worldwide, today announced that it will be the official sponsor of Artists’ Alley at Comic-Con International: San Diego, July 21–24.This is the first time that Comic-Con has allowed a sponsorship of this kind to Artists’ Alley, an area of the convention hall where exhibiting artists interact directly with their fans. DeviantART’s support of this comics and pop-culture institution will be represented in its typically creative style. An installation of two massive digital screens will be suspended high above the showroom floor and multiple digital kiosks displaying art from artists in the Alley will now enable them to showcase their web-based work alongside their physical products.

“We love Artists’ Alley,” says Angelo Sotira, co-founder and chief executive officer of deviantART. “Supporting the many artists represented in this popular section of Comic-Con is an extension of the support system deviantART provides to our community daily. We’re thrilled to be able to give artists online, as well as off, the tools needed to showcase their work digitally and gain feedback from their peers. We are deeply honored by Comic-Con’s invitation to support these truly inspiring artists through this sponsorship of Artists’ Alley.”

Each year, Comic-Con attendees are drawn to Artists’ Alley because of the obscure gems and mainstream titles on physical display, which are oftentimes sold by the comic book artists, writers, and publishers who create them. In addition to the new digital capabilities provided by deviantART, carpeting, improved seating, and electricity will also be contributed to the largest footprint of the convention hall. These material upgrades promise to strengthen the flow of comic devotees in what is consistently one of the busiest sections of the convention hall during this four-day conference.

“We’re very excited that deviantART will be sponsoring Artists’ Alley at Comic-Con,” said David Glanzer, director of marketing and public relations for Comic-Con. “Their commitment to the creative community blends perfectly with Comic-Con’s mission to bring comics and related popular arts to a wider audience. By highlighting and assisting digital artists, deviantART’s sponsorship of Artists’ Alley will allow those artists a broader opportunity for the public to enjoy and appreciate their creative efforts, and for this we are truly grateful.”

DeviantART will also be giving two emerging artists – one digital and one traditional comic artist – the chance to attend Comic-Con as guests of Artists’ Alley through sponsored scholarships. For the latest updates about deviantART at Artists’ Alley or for additional information about how to submit for the deviantART scholarships, please visit comic-con.deviantart.com.

Comic-Con International has today announced that badges that were returned (e.g. via refunds) will go back on sale. The date for the sale of these badges has not been confirmed as of yet but Comic-Con has promised to communicate the announcement via "new media". We will do our best to publish all details as soon as they are published. See the official post below:

[blockquote]The deadline for refunded badges was June 20, 2011. We will announce via our website, Facebook, Twitter and RSS feed when those refunded badges will go on sale. This is a soft opening so the announcement will be made on the day registration opens with about one hour prior notice.

At this time we expect to have 1,500 4-day badges available for purchase.

A number of attendees have brought to our attention the fact that many people purchasing 4-day badges are not planning to attend all four days, while many people who want to attend all four days are forced to buy single-day badges at a higher price. In response, Comic-Con will no longer be offering a discount for 4-day badge purchases. Instead, a 4-day badge and four single-day badges will be the same price. We hope that this change will encourage people to purchase only the days they will actually be attending, leaving additional badges for others who want to attend Comic-Con.

A 4-day adult badge without Preview Night will be sold at the non-discounted rate of $137 that includes a $6 reprocessing fee. Junior, Senior, and Military 4-day badges without Preview Night will be sold at the non-discounted rate of $68 each. You may purchase up to TWO 4-day badges only.

Single-day badges will be available at a later time.[/blockquote]

Relativity Media and graphic novel publisher Archaia Entertainment, LLC formed a publishing partnership to produce and publish a hardcover graphic novel anthology based upon Relativity’s upcoming epic motion picture Immortals, which stars Henry Cavill (Superman: Man of Steel), Luke Evans (Robin Hood), Kellan Lutz (Twillight), Isabel Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen), Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), and Mickey Rourke (Iron Man 2).

Archaia will release the Immortals: Gods and Heroes graphic novel in September, serving as a prelude to the 3D motion picture, which releases worldwide on November 11, 2011. The graphic novel will expand upon the film’s key characters and events through a series of original tales written and illustrated by some of the top names in comics, including David Mack (Kabuki), Ron Marz (Witchblade), Dennis Calero (Dark Tower) and Ben Templesmith (30 Days of Night). The graphic novel will be published through Archaia’s Black Label division, a publishing pipeline dedicated to working alongside creative professionals within the entertainment industry eager to launch and expand their brands in the publishing world.

Directed by Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall) and written by Charles Parlapanides and Vlas Parlapanides, Immortals also stars Stephen Dorff (Public Enemies) and John Hurt (Hellboy).

The 3D epic is produced by Gianni Nunnari (300), Mark Canton (300), and Relativity’s CEO Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter), and will be distributed by Relativity Media worldwide. In the UK, Australia, and certain other territories, distribution is in association with Universal Pictures International. In Immortals, the ruthless King Hyperion (Rourke) leads his bloodthirsty army on a murderous rampage across Greece to find a deadly weapon that will destroy humanity. A mortal chosen by Zeus named Theseus (Cavill) must lead the fight against Hyperion and his evil army with the fate of mankind and the Gods at stake.

TicketLeap

All Comic-Con fans could feel their temperature rising on Saturday as they logged on to TicketLeap to purchase Comic-Con International passes on Saturday. As many of you know, the site was unable to process ticket requests without constant refreshing of your browser. If you were persistent and lucky you may have got tickets, but it probably took you a few hours. TicketLeap wanted to explain and they posted the folowing blog post on their website. Find the original post here.

[blockquote]In 2009, it sold out after 6 months. In 2010, it sold out in 2 months. On Saturday, Comic-Con International 2011 sold out in 7 HOURS (200x faster than last year if you’re keeping track). Needless to say, the demand was unbelievable, reaching a peak of 403,000 page requests per minute and a total of more than 35 million total page requests throughout the day. But while the event sold out in record time and the system never actually went down, things didn’t go as smoothly as we hoped. We are sorry for the frustration our system issues caused on Saturday and we are working hard to answer all of your inquiries. Below you will find the answers to the most common questions regarding ticket sales for Comic-Con International, and click here for a more detailed technical write-up for those who are interested. Also, here is a link to an article on GigaOM with their take on our technical write-up.

When will tickets go on sale again?

At this time, Comic-Con International 2011 is sold out. As refunds are processed, more tickets may become available to purchase at a later date. Please refer to Comic-Con’s website, Facebook page or Twitter page for the latest updates.

I have questions about my TicketLeap confirmation email.

TicketLeap will be re-sending all confirmation emails on Monday, February 7, 2011 (even if you received it the first time around). Your confirmation email will contain a link for each separate transaction. By default, the email shows the start date of the event (Thursday, July 21). Click the link to view the detailed list of all tickets purchased.

If you do not receive your email confirmation by Tuesday, February 8, 2011, please contact our Support Team at comicconsupport@ticketleap.com.

I did not receive bar coded email confirmations from EPIC Registration. How do I get my bar coded email confirmations?

EPIC Registration will send out bar coded email confirmations (separate from the TicketLeap confirmations referenced above). You will receive one bar coded confirmation from EPIC for each badge/admission type. This is your “ticket” to Comic-Con International. Please add the epicreg.com domain to your safe senders list so your confirmation will not go to your spam folder. If you do not receive one bar coded confirmation for each purchased ticket by Wednesday, February 9, 2011, please contact EPIC by email at registration@epicreg.com. Your email to EPIC should include your TicketLeap confirmation number(s) and the name(s) for which you did not receive a bar coded confirmation.  Note: You may not receive all of your bar coded confirmations from EPIC at the same time so please wait until Wednesday to inquire with EPIC if you have not received all of them.

How do I request a refund for Comic-Con International ticket(s)that I purchased?

All ticket refund requests will be processed directly through Comic-Con International. Please refer to their Registration Page for refund policies and instructions. TicketLeap has no authority or ability to issue refunds or handle refunds requests.

I entered incorrect information when I purchased my Comic-Con ticket(s). How can I correct the information for my badges?

If you submitted incorrect contact information when purchasing your tickets, these changes can be made on the EPIC Registration site after you receive the bar coded confirmation emails from their system.  Any further questions you should have after receiving the bar coded confirmation emails from EPIC should be submitted to EPIC at registration@epicreg.com no earlier than Wednesday, February 9, 2011.

There are multiple charges on my credit card for tickets I didn’t purchase or receive.  How do I correct those charges?

Most likely, what you’re seeing is a pending only charge that will drop on its own in 2-3 business days. If you received an error message while attempting your purchase and had to re-submit your information, your bank or card issuer might have temporarily pulled those funds which we cannot accept due to the error that occurred. Typically, these charges will drop in 2-3 business days but please contact your card issuer to find out when they can release the hold on those pending only charges.

For anyone who has other questions that aren’t answered above, please email comicconsupport@ticketleap.com.

Sincerely,

Chris Stanchak
CEO

The folks over at Comic-Con International have announced that registration, for Comic-Con International 2011, will re-open on February 5th at 9AM PST. This is great news considering the original event registration was planned for November 1st, 2010 but with the massive demand, during the registation, the website was shutdown and registration was delayed. We are betting registation goes more smoothly this time around.

ComicCon2011Guests_thumbComic-Con International: San Diego (Comic-Con), the largest comic book convention of its kind in the world, has announced two dozen additional special guests for this year’s convention. Artist Joëlle Jones, author Sherrilyn Kenyon, writer Grant Morrison, and writer/artist/publisher Jim Steranko join 20 fellow comics creators who have recently committed for Comic-Con 2011 in San Diego.

The first wave of 20 special guests was announced by Comic-Con in October of last year.

“We received great feedback from comics fans with our initial announcement,” said David Glanzer, Comic-Con’s director of marketing and public relations. “The addition of more special guests to an already stellar roster showcasing the best in the comics community is something our attendees have come to expect.”

Comic-Con 2011 will be held July 21-24 at the San Diego Convention Center. Passes to the show’s Preview Night on July 20 were sold out during this summer’s 2010 convention, although more four-day passes with Preview Night may be released closer to the show, depending on returns or cancellations. While there is still no specific date for the opening of general registration, Comic-Con expects it to occur before the end of January.
